A Massive Day for Mellowpuff!

What a truly incredible day last Saturday for our annual Mellowpuff Day! The rugby on the field was fierce, passionate, and played with heart — both grades gave it everything in two intense and hard-fought encounters. While the results didn’t quite fall our way, every United player left it all out there and did the club proud.

The energy carried on into the evening, with a packed clubroom and an awesome atmosphere that lasted well into the night. It was a day that reminded us what rugby and community are all about.

A massive thank you to Tanya and Terry Long for once again allowing the boys to don the iconic pink strip. It’s a privilege to wear it, and the significance of the occasion is never lost on us. Your continued support means the world.

To all our sponsors, supporters, and club whānau who generously donated — thank you! Your contributions helped make the day such a success, and we’re thrilled to share that we’ve already raised over $2500 for the Mellowpuff Charitable Trust — and counting!

Thank you also to the Basketball and Netball teams who joined in, as well as the social committee for running a fantastic Beer Pong evening with tunes.

Looking Ahead
This weekend, the lads head over to the White House to take on New Plymouth Old Boys — always a strong matchup and one to get along to if you can.

Looking slightly further ahead, our next home game is on Friday night of Matariki Weekend at Stadium Taranaki. Lock it in and bring the noise!

A quick note: club comms may be a little slower this week... turns out this newsletter editor had the bright idea to book a holiday mid-season. 🤦‍♂️ Unbelievable, we know.

Div 1 Match Report vs Coastal

Epic day on Saturday!

Love Mellowpuff day it is always been my most favourite time of the rugby season! 

It’s also an emotional but exciting day, its a day even our veteran/retired players hit out for a game, a day where every single one of us is wearing our hearts on the outside, the raw emotions worn on our faces, the smiles, the laughters, the reflection when that pink jersey is pulled out and put on, Terry’s korero, his tribute to his beautiful daughter Melissa, can guarantee to get the staunch of the staunchest  to succumb to their emotions 🩷

Pink was worn everywhere even right down to our little cubs of Ferdie one; coincidence maybe but either way it was beautiful to see!

Game time! The vibe was high in our team, and they were ready to rubble! And that they did! They stuck it to Coastal, I would be 99% sure they would hold of gave Coastal a fright  with the epic hit out they gave to them because last time they meet they hammered us 55-8  they may have gotten the win that day but it didn’t come to them easy at all, because our boys started the hard yards from the start and brought that fighting spirit all the way to that final whistle ending the game 28-33 it was an epic shift from the boys! Absolutely proud of them all! Was definitely an exciting game! 

Huge thank you to the continued support of our prem players Kodee and Keanu although Keanu didn’t quite make the field before duties called him back the prems who continue to come down to us and our veterans/former players/retired players returning for giving that little bit more support and experience back on the field and not forgetting Khloe and Justin for being our ball kids too ☺️

As for the beer pong comp that was awesome! Everyone looked like they had fun was even funnier to watch! Shot to Steve and Terry for taking the comp out not bad for nominated teams 🤣🤣🤣
