Not a very long report this week more or less just a report in how proud we are of these boys despite the score despite the challenges we faced leading up to this week which will never tell the whole story on what plays out on the field
First game of the season under the new Banner of United! Wasn't what we expected and everything that wanted to be thrown at us did, injuries, sickness, whanau commitments, mahi, league finals you name it, it was trying to prevent us from fielding a team, but with a couple recruits even if it was just for the day and positive attitudes we managed to pull it together even if it meant no reserves we gave it all we had! The boys still defended the line, they attacked, they tackled, they backed each other up, even injuries happened and despite all that they got on and played rugby and that’s all we asked of them!
We head to the Clifton this weekend and with our heads held high we got this!
Big mihi going out as always to our coaching and management team, our supporters, the club for always backing us no matter the outcome and to our 3 boys for benching for our prems so they too could field their team now that’s "Kotahitanga” unity, united we stood!
Thank you to everyone behind the scenes getting our rebranding off the ground we sure looked amazing out there in our new kits!
Bring on the rest of season!

Our boys showed plenty of heart in the opening stages of our clash against Southern, starting with great intensity and belief. We held our own in the first half, displaying strong defence and working into good field position, which gave us confidence heading into the break. The effort and commitment were clear, and we matched Southern for large periods of the game.
Unfortunately, a couple of key lapses saw us switch off at crucial moments, and a clinical Southern side made us pay with two long-range tries that swung the momentum. Those big plays proved costly.
In the second half, Southern shifted into another gear and showed why they are such a dangerous side. We struggled to match their intensity, and the scoreboard reflected that. However, there were still positives to take away from the game—our set-piece work improved, our kicking game was good and also our game management in terms of not over playing in our half.
Looking ahead, we have areas to work on, but we also have a lot to build from. With some players set to return from injury and league commitments, our squad will be bolstered for the upcoming fixture against Clifton. It’s a long season, and every game is an opportunity to learn and improve. |
